Hiring Our Facilities

Community Organisations Groups and Schools (COGS) Facility

Schools have been encouraged by Government to become more involved with their local communities and vice versa.  However, it has not been very easy to allow community use of the premises because access to the hall, the most likely community space, has been through the school.

Solutions to this problem started back in 2007, but at that time there were insufficient funds available to move the plans forward.  Early in 2010 we were fortunate to obtain a grant from Extended Schools which has allowed us to build a meeting room adjacent to the School Hall with secure, community entrance to the Hall.  The hall floor has also been relaid in oak.  The meeting room provides kitchen facilities, disabled toilet and baby change and space for groups of 8 - 12 people to hold confidential or informal meetings.

If you are interested in hiring the COGS facility please contact Mrs Jay, by phone: 01768 213200 or email: admin@brunswick.cumbria.sch.uk.

Mr Peter Kingsbury, retired Chartered Engineer and our then Chair of Governors was heavily involved in the technical aspects of design and construction, applications for planning and the submission for the grant.  The school is indebted to him for his professional expertise and the hours he spent on the project to bring it to fruition.

On Tuesday, 8th February 2011, Mr Kingsbury officially opened the new facility in a short ceremony held in the school hall.  The choir sang and Mr Kingsbury was presented with a gift to mark his retirement as Chair of Governors.
