Radcliffe's Rangers

We would like to welcome you to Radcliffe's Rangers Year 2 Class.

Radcliffe's Rangers is based in a large classroom with lots of areas of continuous provision which we call Mastery Areas. Such as the 'Making Mastery Area', 'Painting', Construction, 'Science', 'Maths' and 'English' . We use these areas to consolidate the children's learning  and often set Mastery Challenges for them.

In Radcliffe's Ranger's Class the children use a multi-sensory approach to learning their spellings. They call this 'Busy Spellings' and during the week the children practise their own set of target spellings in the Mastery Areas in the classroom. This hands on approach makes them remember the words they need to learn to spell and also makes it fun!

Our children love learning and enjoy accessing their busy classroom environment. Their days are filled with English,Phonics and Maths sessions as well as topic and art  based activities. Throughout the year we learn through a cross curricular approach covering the topics of 'Micro to Metro', 'Mechanical Marvels and Daring Designs' and 'Far Far Away'. We like to visit the local area such as Thacka Nature Reserve and Penrith Museum and also hold special enrichment days such as Mechanical Marvels Day and Jungle Fun Day.  In addition we enjoy P.E, music and creative arts. In P.E we enjoy our weekly visits from the sports coaches from '54 Degree Sports' and the Sport's Partnership learning lots of essential skills such as football, hockey and also cricket in the summer term.

Radcliffe is our class mascot. He is a brave adventurer and is often the inspiration for many of our Mastery challenges and learning. He often needs help with his spelling, maths skills or science challenges and really appreciates the support of his Rangers to fix his work! The children get to take him home at the end of the week as a reward for demonstrating good writing skills, they write about his adventures and report back on Monday mornings.

Currently we all enjoy accessing 'Mathletics' to support our maths learning, we do this both in school and at home too! We also have a plasma screen, set of I Pads and Tablets and the use of 3 laptops which we all love using on a daily basis.
